Vain Caricature
This quote is definitely out of context. But, I watched both of the Fyre Festival documentaries this weekend (Hulu and Netflix). Because: Schadenfreude. As I was looking for todays post, I thought this a fitting example of what everyone was trying to do there. They were all enamored with this dream of what “could” have been, what meaning this could give their life through this experience. They thought they loved something and of they wanted it badly enough it would become their reality. Yet instead of that, they were caught up in this one person’s search for defining a fantasy life, and it all collapsed. They were searching for something outside of themselves to define their lives through experience. It was all caricature. And they all got their comeuppance. I do think the penalties weren’t harsh enough though. And feel bad for all the hardworking people that didn’t get paid. Hopefully through these documentaries and a little more visibility, or at least thorough visibility opposed to the social media schadenfreude.
